The International Press Institute (IPI), an international press freedom organisation and the global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists in over 120 countries, iscurrently looking for an intern to engage in a range of activities addressing global press freedom issues.

The Role

Reporting to the IPI Press Freedom Manager, the intern will be responsible for a range of
activities, including:
• Advising and reporting on press freedom issues
• Drafting press releases, letters of protest and reports on press freedom issues
• Contributing to advocacy campaigns and projects
• Liaising with media representatives and IPI members

Media Production BA Hons

You will consider the ways in which media products are created and the social and cultural factors that shape and influence the creative process. You will explore these issues through a substantial amount of practical production work together with reflective critical analysis of your own and the work of others.

Most media products are produced by teams of people so this course allows you to develop your ability to work in groups. You will learn practical skills such as budgeting, estimating and time management and then combine thesewith the technical productions skills you've learned to enable you to deliver high quality products within budget and on time.

You will be introduced to a range of theoretical strategies to inform your production work and also begin to test the validity and limitations of theoretical approaches.

Logo Closer LookA travel grant opportunity for journalists to explore popular and youth cultures in the neighbouring countries of the European Union.

The European Cultural Foundation (ECF) supports the travel costs of young European journalists who wish to report on popular and youth cultures in the neighbouring countries of the European Union. The ECF gives priority to those topics which highlight aspects of cultural diversity and intercultural competence.

The Amsterdam-based ECF is an independent foundation which supports cultural cooperation as an important element of the European integration process. By supporting the mobility of journalists of popular and youth culture, it hopes to bring deeper understanding and emotional commitment to the idea of further EU enlargement.

European journalists under 35 who are interested in popular and youth cultures and are working in the print media, television or radio are eligible for support.

The eligible destinations are: Albania, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Turkey and Ukraine.


A Broader Europe: Enlargement Seminars for Journalists 2005

Since May 2004 the EU has ten new members. How has accession impacted on policy, business and social development in the New Member States? What are the hot issues of enlargement? How is the larger European Union functioning?

At the initiative of the European Commission, DG Enlargement, the European Journalism Centre is organising an extensive programme of 23 seminars focusing on the hot issues of enlargement and aiming to provide journalists with background knowledge and contacts about key developments in the New Member States and at European level.

The seminars include in-depth briefings in Brussels and visits to the New Member States.

Travel and accommodation costs are paid for by the organisers.

Journalists fitting the profiles outlined below can present their candidature by sending a motivation letter, a reference from their editor and a CV to Kerstin Eigert ( Candidates must indicate the date and subject of the seminar they wish to attend. Enrolment in each seminar will continue until all places are filled.
