UNESCO/Bilbao Prize

UNESCO is inviting Member States, in consultation with their National Commissions, and non-governmental organizations maintaining formal relations with UNESCO working in the field of human rights, to nominate candidates for the second edition of the UNESCO/Bilbao Prize for the Promotion of a Culture of Human Rights.

The Prize is awarded to encourage innovative initiatives by institutions, organizations and individuals, serving to promote a culture of human rights at regional and international levels.

The Prize was established in 2008 thanks to a generous endowment from the City of Bilbao (Spain). It enlarges the scope of the UNESCO Prize for Human Rights Education (1978-2006). Awarded by the Director-General of UNESCO, the Prize consists of a monetary award, a diploma and a trophy.

UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries Programme

The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists promote the mobility of young artists in order to enrich their personal perspectives, to enable them to engage in an intercultural dialogue and expose them to cultural diversity.

The Programme offers residencies to young artists (between 25 and 35 years old) worldwide. It shares many objectives of the Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions (2005), which advocates cultural exchanges and highlights creativity and the need for artists to enrich their experience through contact with other cultures.

The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries Programme was integrated in UNESCO's strategy in 1994 to promote cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue. It aims to provide experience to young artists and to help them complete their training in countries other than their own.

ICRC Young Reporter Competition - 2010

Participate in the ICRC Young Reporter Competition and get an inside look at the ICRC's humanitarian action, in collaboration with national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.

The four best entries will win a one-week mission to ICRC delegations in Georgia, Lebanon, Liberia and the Philippines. You will get to interview young people affected by armed conflict or other situations of violence and have a chance to report back to your peers, using your own words and creative talents. With the guidance and coaching of an ICRC communication specialist, selected candidates will produce a news report on their mission—in print or film—to be published and/or shown in a variety of media outlets.

The finished products will be presented during a ceremony held in Geneva, Switzerland, around May 8, 2011.

Young European of the Year - 2010

We are looking for young people from Europe between the ages of 18 and 26 who have worked in an honorary capacity towards the understanding between peoples and/or European integration and in the process have achieved exemplary success: Young people who have learned to act with initiative, personal commitment and a sense of responsibil¬ity, thus showing they are prepared to grasp the opportunities of our time in forging peaceful coexistence in a Europe of diversity. We are not looking for young people with fully-fledged careers. Each year with this prize the Schwarzkopf Foundation Young Europe wishes to reward a young European for his/her outstanding commitment to fostering international understanding and the union of Europe. At the same time we want to encourage and motivate these young people to continue to champion these ideals.
