About the eLearning Awards 2005
The eLearning Awards are awarded for the fifth time in 2005. The eLearning Awards aim at identifying and awarding excellent practice in using ICT for learning.

The eLearning Awards correspond to the main focuses of European and national efforts in education. They highlight common European cultural values by investing in human capacities and teachers’ professionalism.

The eLearning Awards support teaching and learning at European schools by awarding excellent resources, effective services, working ideas and imaginative solutions.

Awards are given to ongoing or recently finalised educational projects and activities. The idea is not to do something for the eLearning Awards but to submit what you do to the awards.

The eLearning Awards target schools at different levels, teacher training centers, and also cater to the needs of different types of learners.

Submissions to the eLearning Awards are made through the website. The deadline for submissions is 17 October 2005.

Projects will be evaluated by educational experts from all over Europe. Among the key areas evaluated are: production, networking, learning community, content, didactics, pedagogical innovation and transferability.

Winners of the awards will be invited to a prize-giving ceremony in Paris, France, on 8 December 2005.

Rules
Schools, educational institutions and organisations in Europe carrying out primary, secondary or teacher training education, and teachers employed or working for such schools, educational institutions and organisations in Europe are eligible for the eLearning Awards.

Municipal and regional education institutions are eligible only for the special award that relates to them.

Projects created by individual teachers are eligible. However, all entries must be associated with a school or other eligible institution. Prize money can only be transferred to the account of the school or institution, which is also responsible for its disbursement. An invitation to the award ceremony is sent to the person who submits a winning project. It is however possible to nominate a different representative.

National educational content providers and similar, or projects run by such institutions/organisations are not eligible. Projects that were awarded eLearning Awards in previous years, projects that are part of European Schoolnet (EUN) or that are regularly presented from the EUN server are also not eligible.

Projects that have won other awards or grants (e.g. Comenius), or have benefitted from sponsorship, are eligible. These must be declared in the project description submitted.

An entry may cover a part of a school, a collection of resources, a project or activity. Contents visible on the entry should have been substantially created after 1 January 2004.

Entries must be submitted via the eLearning Awards website on or before 17 October 2005.

A user account must be created by following instructions in the box on the front page of this website. An entry is made by filling in a form to describe the project and give the relevant URL to visit.

Evaluation is carried out online. We regret that we cannot accept CD-ROMs or printed material to be considered for evaluation.

Cooperative projects between schools, educational institutions and organisations are eligible if they are represented by one school, institution or organisation that is part of the project. If a project is submitted by more than one partner, these submissions will be considered as one.

Entries should be submitted in a European language. They must include an informative summary or an abstract in English, German, French, Italian or Spanish.

All material to be evaluated must be online from 17 October to 30 November 2005. Winning entries must be kept online until 31 December 2005.

Legal and ethical issues

All entries must follow European agreements on copyright. Short quotations may be used if the source is clearly indicated. Pictures, film, sound and other multimedia may be used only if produced by the school or similar, or if the owner has explicitly permitted use, or if taken from free sources such as Clip Art.

Entries submitted to the eLearning Awards remain the property of the school/organisation or teacher. European Schoolnet has full rights to make the material freely available for educational purposes on the Web, CD-ROM or other media from the date of submission until 31 December 2013.

Entries may not contain statement, fact, information or quotation that may harm or diminish any person or group of people. Entries may not contain statement, fact, information or quotation that may encourage persecution of people on the grounds of race, opinion, nationality, sex, profession or other persuasion. Nor may entries encourage crime or the breaking of laws.

Disqualification of project

European Schoolnet or jurors may decide to disqualify an entry if it has not been submitted in time, partly or as a whole; or if the entry breaks any of the rules under the section ’Legal and ethical issues’, above. If an entry contains material that may be considered to break the rules, European Schoolnet may disqualify the project, take away the material that breaks the rules or withdraw an awarded prize.

European Schoolnet reserves the right to adapt the rules and awards. Notification of changes will be made on the eLearning Awards website.
